Micheál is saved by a German U-Boat during World War 2 after his small fishing boat gets caught up in a storm in the North West Atlantic, off the coast of Donegal in Ireland. His rescue kicks off an inter-generational story connecting the US, Germany and Ireland to the present day and into the future. The story chronicles one man's determination to overcome the iron-fist authority of the Irish narrow-minded Church and its apologists - as well as wartime restrictions and closed borders - to help save one family from the Nazi terror. Leaning on his rural community's intrinsic goodness and their faith in the power of their ancient celtic saints, Michael's story contrasts the kindness of strangers with racism and migration. The Mezuzah also explores parallels between ancient people's reliance on religous symbols and future generations' reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI).
